Soooo…
it’s getting warmer.
The sun is finally overcoming her shyness, big rainclouds are making a vacation somewhere else and humans are enjoying themselves again after months of barricading themselves in their homes.

The sun is so hot indeed, that all of your friends decide to refresh themselves with awesome cold treats.
While all of your friends are enjoying ice cream, iced coffees, and cocktails, you’re sitting next to them while chomping on some beef jerky.

Not the ideal scenario, isn’t it?
Well, not really.
I can say from my personal experience that the summer months are the hardest months on a low carb diet right after the holiday season in November and December.

But with the right preparation, you can stick to your goals even then.
No need to ditch all of your progress for a scoop of ice cream or a milkshake.

You can make both of those things yourself – absolutely keto-friendly!
The best thing about this keto blueberry milkshake is that it doesn’t take more than 5 minutes to make!
So it’s ideal for those itchy summer cravings you most certainly will get in the next few months.

Just be warned that the net carbs from the blueberries in this milkshake do add up quickly, so I don’t recommend having more than one serving on the same day. (Which is absolutely satisfying btw!)
And I like to repeat the same mantra as always whenever I post something that is a bit higher in net carbs:
adjust what you eat in your other meals and you’ll be fine.

If you calculate your net carbs for your remaining meals and stick to lower carb meals you’ll be fine and well – no getting kicked out of ketosis for you!
(I never get kicked out of ketosis when I stick to my calculated net carb count, just when I let it slip and overeat on something.)

But of course, you can also stick to lower carb summer treats, I have plenty of those too!
For example, this keto vanilla milkshake or this keto butter pecan ice cream!

KETO BLUEBERRY MILKSHAKE INGREDIENTS:

This section is where I go a bit more in-depth about the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe. ☺️

(You can find the exact amounts needed on the recipe card that’s embedded below this section!)

  • almond milk:
unsweetened almond milk will be the base of our recipe.
Almond milk is incredibly low carb (Only about 0.2g/100g) and doesn’t have a strong taste of its own which makes it perfect for recipes like this.
  • heavy cream:
I recommend adding heavy cream as well, as the contained fat enhances the flavor and makes the whole recipe feel more “milkshake-like”.

  • frozen blueberries:
If you use frozen blueberries, you don’t have to add extra ice cubes.
This will keep your keto blueberry milkshake creamy and “milkshake-like” while adding ice cubes will cause it to water down a bit.

BUT: if you only have fresh blueberries and don’t want to wait until they’re frozen, it’ll work with fresh blueberries + ice cubes as well!

  • liquid sweetener:
Probably one of the few times in my life where I don’t recommend erythritol.
(If this is your first time on my blog you should know that I’m pretty religious about how much I love erythritol for my other sweet recipes).

But erythritol doesn’t solve well in water and is thus not well suited for this recipe.
It’ll just accumulate at the bottom and that’s not a good milkshake experience.

Instead, I recommend a liquid sweetener of your choice – everything you enjoy is fine here.
I personally don’t like liquid stevia as I’m one of those unfortunate souls who can taste the aftertaste pretty badly, so I went for a sucralose-based sweetener.

I also didn’t give any specific recommendations regarding the amounts needed of the liquid sweetener because they vary so much from brand to brand and sweetener to sweetener.
If you use a sucralose-based sweetener you probably only need a few drops whereas other products could require several tsp.
Read the recommendations on the backside of the specific product you’ll use to determine how much sweetener to use.
