I’m currently on a quest to recreate my favorite holiday food – low carb style.
My keto vanilla crescent cookies and keto coconut macaroons were the first successful results and now I can add another delicious low carb holiday recipe to that list:
Keto cinnamon star cookies.

Cinnamon star cookies are traditional German Christmas cookies.
I think cinnamon and Christmas go together perfectly – so the decision to attempt keto cinnamon star cookies came naturally.

And what can I say, they turned out great.
When my boyfriend came home from work and tried my keto vanilla crescent cookies and my keto cinnamon star cookies he thought I ditched the ketogenic diet because they tasted like “the real ones”.
My favorite way to enjoy the keto cookies is with a nice & hot cup of coffee.
It’s so incredibly comforting and Christmas-y.

At the same time, these keto cookies are super low carb with only 0.2g net carbs per cookie!
They contain a decent amount of fiber (0.5g) and fat (2g) which makes them absolutely perfect for the ketogenic diet.
(Plus: they’re pretty easy to make and you only need 5 ingredients!)
A guilt-free & fun holiday keto treat!

    KETO CINNAMON STAR COOKIES INGREDIENTS:

  • ground almonds: not the same as finely ground almond flour!
Finely ground almond flour looks just like “real” wheat flour whereas ground almonds are a bit more “flakey”.
  • confectioners erythritol
  • My absolute favorite keto-friendly sweetener!
It doesn’t spike your blood sugar, it’s completely safe and has a very natural sweet taste to it.

☝︎ Because of its’ natural origin I do consider erythritol to be a paleo-friendly sweetener.

  • cinnamon: I recommend ceylon cinnamon over cassia cinnamon.
Ceylon cinnamon is more aromatic and has a higher quality than cassia cinnamon.
  • eggs: only egg whites
  • almond extract: if you’re strict paleo, you may want to skip the almond extract because it may contain non-paleo ingredients

HOW TO MAKE KETO CINNAMON STAR COOKIES:

    1. Mix the ingredients:
    (Preheat the oven to 300°F/150°C).
Mix the ground almonds, part of the confectioners’ erythritol (exact amounts in the recipe card at the end of the post) and the cinnamon.
Add the egg white and the almond extract and mix until you get a smooth dough.

    2. Roll out the dough and cut out the star-shaped cookies:
Place your dough onto plastic wrap or parchment paper and add another plastic wrap sheet on top of the dough. (This will help to avoid that the dough sticks to the rolling pin.)
Roll out the dough until it’s approx. 1/3″ (0.75cm) thick.
Get out a star-shaped cookie cutter (other cookie cutters will do the job just as well) and cut out the cookies.
Place the cookies onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

    3. Brush with meringue topping and bake:
    Beat the other egg white.
Remove 1/2 of the stiff egg white and fold in the remaining confectioners’ erythritol.
Brush the cookies with the meringue topping and place the cookies into the oven.
Bake the cookies for approx. 15 minutes.

    4. Serve:
Let the cookies cool off completely before eating them.
Enjoy with a hot cup of coffee or tea!

One cookie has 0.2g net carbs (0.7g total carbs and 0.5g dietary fiber), 1.9g fat, 1.0g protein, and 23 calories.

(I try to be as accurate as possible with this information, but values may vary because of natural occurring fluctuations and different products used.)
