The one thing I love the most about running a low carb/keto recipe blog is that I always have yummy keto treats at home.
I try to create new recipes almost every other day and I usually go through a few test runs before deciding on the final ingredients for a recipe I want to publish.
This, in turn, means that I usually have a bunch of different treats at home and if neither I nor my boyfriend decides to sacrifice oneself for the greater good it means the treats are thrown away.
(So basically, I have no other choice, right?)
But because I usually have a new recipe in the pipeline I rarely make the same treats again.
It would just be too much to eat the new creations and make older ones as well.
Except for some reaaaaally delicious ones.
Like this keto chocolate milkshake.
It’s getting super warm in Germany right now so a cold treat is always appreciated and this chocolate milkshake is so easy to whip up that I made it a few times since I first created the recipe.
The easiness of a recipe directly correlates to how often I make a sweet keto treat for myself and this one checky all boxes:
– you can whip it up in less than 5 minutes
– you only need 5 ingredients (and you probably have all of them at home already if you’ve been keto for a while)
– it tastes awesome and tastes like the real deal.
So without further ado, scroll down to find out how to make it!

KETO CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE INGREDIENTS:
This section is where I go a bit more in-depth about the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe. ☺️
(You can find the exact amounts needed on the recipe card that’s embedded below this section!)
unsweetened almond milk will be the base of our recipe.
Almond milk is incredibly low carb (Only about 0.2g/100g) and doesn’t have a strong taste of its own which makes it perfect for recipes like this.
I already make other keto milkshake recipes that don’t necessarily require heavy cream to taste good, but in this recipe it’s a must in my opinion.
A chocolate milkshake has to have a creamy mouthfeel – low carb or not!
Serving tip: If you still haven’t gotten enough calories or fat on that particular day, you can also add extra decadence to your chocolate milkshake by adding sugar-free whipped cream on top!
It tastes awesome (and looks great) but keep in mind that it’ll add quite a bit of extra calories which can quickly add up.
Make sure it has no added sugar!
100% cacao powder will add a strong chocolate taste without adding a lot of carbs.
Probably one of the few times in my life where I don’t recommend erythritol.
(If this is your first time on my blog you should know that I’m pretty religious about how much I love erythritol for my other sweet recipes).
But erythritol doesn’t solve well in water and is thus not well suited for this recipe.
It’ll just accumulate at the bottom and that’s not a good milkshake experience.
Instead, I recommend a liquid sweetener of your choice – everything you enjoy is fine here.
I personally don’t like liquid stevia as I’m one of those unfortunate souls who can taste the aftertaste pretty badly, so I went for a sucralose-based sweetener.
I also didn’t give any specific recommendations regarding the amounts needed of the liquid sweetener because they vary so much from brand to brand and sweetener to sweetener.
If you use a sucralose-based sweetener you probably only need a few drops whereas other products could require several tsp.
Read the recommendations on the backside of the specific product you’ll use to determine how much sweetener to use.
