Store-bought salad dressings are rarely keto-friendly.
Most of them contain tons of sugar, unnecessary and unhealthy fats & flavor enhancers that aren’t part of a healthy diet and especially not the ketogenic diet.
Because of the nasty ingredients involved, the best option is to make your own keto salad dressing.
This way you’ll know for sure how much sugar it contains and what ingredients go in.
Making your own one is also the best choice for anyone who is following another diet besides the ketogenic diet, e.g. paleo or vegan. (This apple cider vinegar salad dressing is paleo and vegan as well!)
Once you overcome your sugar addiction you won’t miss store-bought salad dressings and you’ll always want to make your own one!
This apple cider vinegar salad dressing has the best of both worlds:
it’s delicious and flavorful while healthy and low carb.
My favorite way to eat it is with a high-protein shrimp salad full of nutritious vegetables.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR SALAD DRESSING INGREDIENTS:
(You can use olive oil of course!)
My oil of choice is usually a mixture of two oils: flaxseed oil & avocado oil in a ratio of 1:3.
Both oils are incredibly healthy for you and they have a mild taste which I really like.
☝︎ Make sure to store flaxseed oil in a dark and cold place – ideally your fridge – because the unsatured fats can go rancid pretty quickly.
Apple cider vinegar is linked to a lot of health benefits, most of which are associated with the active ingredient acetic acid.
There are some wild claims out there regarding apple cider vinegar and while there are some studies suggesting it is very beneficial to your health – one tbsp of apple cider vinegar won’t cure all your problems.
One of the most potent effects of consuming apple cider vinegar before a meal or with a meal is an increased sense of fullness, which can aid in weight and fat loss.
It has no impact on your blood sugar at all and provides a very pleasant sweetness.
But: other keto-friendly sweeteners that don’t spike your blood sugar are fine as well!
If you’re vegan, you should skip honey mustard and Dijon mustard.
(I usually add a dried salad herb blend as well.)
HOW TO MAKE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR SALAD DRESSING:
1. Mix the ingredients:
Mix all of the ingredients thouroughly and pour over a freshly made salad right before serving.
This recipe is enough for a salad for two people.
If you eat the salad alone, split the recipe by two.
Nutrition Info:
One serving of this apple cider vinegar dressing (half the recipe) has 1.0g net carbs (1.5g total carbs and 0.5g dietary fiber), 28g fat, 0.8g protein, and 263 calories.
(I try to be as accurate as possible with this information, but values may vary because of natural occurring fluctuations and different products used.)
